Katy Perry Discusses Her Judging Style On ‘American Idol’
One of the most anticipated aspects of the upcoming reboot of American Idol is what Katy Perry will be like as a judge. Will she be mean like Simon? Hippy dippy like Paula Abdul? Maybe flirtatious like Nicole Scherzinger on The X Factor UK? Nope. She’s going to be no nonsense.
It makes sense. After all, they are paying her a boatload of money, (26 million), to be a judge on the show. So, it’s a good thing she plans on taking it very seriously. She told People Magazine,
“My personality is that I’m a straight shooter — almost to a fault. I just value authenticity so much that it can sometimes get me into trouble because I take this job really seriously. I don’t want to walk away from American Idol and just have a season go by and we don’t have any Kelly Clarkson because that means we’re just filling space on television. I really truly want to be able to do this exercise and make someone’s dream come true.”
I look forward to seeing this. Maybe her brutal honesty will be seen as mean like Simon Cowell and either Lionel Richie or Luke Bryan will be the “nice” judges. Either way it’s going to be interesting to see what she does and if she’s worth her hefty price tag.
