Kanye West recently appeared on Nick Cannon’s podcast “Cannon’s Class” to discuss everything from his presidential campaign to his ongoing feud with Taylor Swift. In 2009, Kanye infamously ran on stage at the MTV VMA’s while Taylor was accepting the award for Best Female Video. He is now revealing what drove him to do this.

Kanye West Reveals What Drove Him To Interrupt Taylor Swift’s Speech

“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” Kanye said over a decade ago when he walked up on stage. Taylor who was just 19 at the time was completely shocked that the rapper interrupted her speech. Kanye used this time on the podcast to explain his reasoning for the outlandish move. “Right now, God is giving me the information and he ain’t give me no other information […] So that means he wants me to say this now,” he said. “If God ain’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row.”

He further explained his actions saying “I would’ve been sitting in the back and they would’ve made it the first award and he wouldn’t have made it so ridiculous, because I had never heard of this person before and ‘Single Ladies’ is one of the greatest videos of all time.” There were tons of claims that Kanye was intoxicated during the awards show which let him to do this. There were pictures of him drinking a bottle of Hennessy Brandy at the show. “I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn’t want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up,” he said.

Taylor And Kanye’s Feud Was Reignited Earlier This Year

Earlier this year, someone leaked the full phone call of Kanye and Taylor discussing his 2016 song “Famous.” In the phone call, Kanye explains that in the song, he would like to include the line “I feel like Taylor Swift might owe me sex.” At the time Taylor said she needed to think about it before he went ahead with putting the song out. In the actual song, Kanye also raps the line “I made that b***h famous.” Taylor insists that she was never informed that this line would be used in the song, a claim that the full phone call supports. Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian also weighed in on the drama on Twitter accusing Taylor of lying.

“Kanye did not call for approval,” Taylor’s publicist Tree Paine posted on Instagram, “but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account.” This does indeed seem to acknowledge that a conversation occurred between them while saying it was for different reasons than Kanye and Kim claimed. Whatever drama is still brewing between the two seems to be the last thing on Kanye’s mind. He spoke about his plans for his presidential campaign. “I’m not running for president, I’m walking,” Kanye told The Masked Singer host during his podcast appearance.
