Judge Runs Back Stage To Comfort Emotional Contestant During Shocking Rejection [VIDEO]
Rickey Clark Jr., 9, from Providence, RI auditioned for the X-Factor UK in 2013 and warmed the hearts of the audience, especially judge Kelly Rowland with his good looks and personality. Unfortunately, his connection with the Destiny’s Child singer was not enough to keep him from going to the next round, after singing “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder, all four judges told him “it’s a no for now”. Clark did not take this well and left the stage crying causing Rowland to leave her seat and go comfort him backstage. Watch the heartbreaking moment below.
Rickey Clarks Upsetting Rejection
Rowland and Clark seemed to be connecting the minute he entered the stage. The X Factor judge even told him that he reminds her of a young Usher and even called him cute at one point after he told a story about fighting with his brothers and breaking his mom’s vase.
Kelly gave him a flirtatious response saying, “Oh, you are naughty it’s kind of cute though.“
Rickey Clark Jr. had everything it took to be a star. He had great stage presence and personality but his voice wasn’t enough to keep him advancing to the competition. Throughout his short audition, Simon did not enjoy the performance and told Clark that he likes him but he doesn’t like his voice.
“It sounded flat to me,” Simon Cowell said about his voice.
Clark did not respond to this criticism lightly and neither did the audience. Kelly Rowland decided to give the young singer some advice that he could take with him following his audition, saying that it took her almost 8 years to finally be able to release an album and that this is just one step in his life.
Kelly Rowland Comforts Contestant After His Emotional Walk off The ‘X-Factor’ Stage
The other judges were also sad to say no to him as Demi Lovato told him to keep trying, Paulina Rubio told him to come back next year and that it’s a no for now causing Clark to walk off the stage.
Kelly who felt really bad for him especially after connecting with him chased him backstage immediately and gave him a hug. She shared with him that she has also been in the same position as him years ago when she was on the competition show “Star Search” in the ’90s with her group “Girls Tyme”.
The judges at the time had also told her group, no as well, as a reminder to the heartbroken singer that he will have to hear rejection many times before making it in the music industry.
Following her advice, he told the cameras “I’m not going to give up no matter what anyone says.” We can’t wait to see if he will take the judge’s advice and return to the show, if the show returns that is. For now, we’ll be on the lookout and keep you updated.
