Jenna Marbles Breaks Down As She Quits YouTube and 20 Million Subscribers Forever…
Popular YouTuber Jenna Marbles has acquired a huge fanbase after making videos for a decade. She has over 20 million subscribers. But, she shocked fans as she posted a video saying that she is quitting YouTube forever. This comes after several other YouTubers like Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star were called out for past actions including wearing blackface and saying racial slurs.
Jenna Marbles Is Quitting YouTube After Blackface Scandal
During a sketch where she portrayed Nicki Minaj in 2011 on her channel, Jenna wore blackface. She has since made this video and any other video featuring offensive content private but did show the clip as she apologized. She did this because she does not want to make people upset and feel hurt by her content. For her, she wanted her channel to be about making “inclusive content” that doesn’t offend people. But, there clearly were certain videos that really struck a nerve with people, especially now that the Black Lives Matter movement is striving towards making real change all over the world. In another video that she apologized for, Jenna used racial terms and stereotypes against Asian people.
Jenna said that she was misogynistic in a few of her videos including when she talked about women who slept with a lot of men. “I’m sorry if I ever made you feel bad about yourself or your choices or anything,” she said. She was very emotional when she said this and on the brink of tears.
Fans Were Upset In The Comments That Jenna Is Quitting
Jenna began crying towards the end of the video speaking about how she didn’t have any sponsors on her channel and that its sole purpose was to provide content for fans. But, she kept emphasizing that she does not want to hurt anybody. “I think I’m going to just move on from this channel for now. I don’t know if that’s forever, I don’t know how long it’s going to be,” she said. She finished the video saying she might end up taking it down because it is embarrassing.
People in the comments were sad to see Jenna go. “The way you have responded to all this is honestly THE best way you or anyone could have. I am so so glad that Jenna turned out to be a good egg. Thank you so so much for staying genuine” said one fan. “The fact that she’s admitting her wrongs even when people didn’t call her out for it shows that she truly cares and wants to be better,” said another. People on Twitter are also so shocked about Jenna’s decision.
Others compared her apology to Shane Dawson’s who also wore blackface in a video. “Meanwhile Shane Dawson and Jeffree Star still get support and ‘stanned’ while never truly apologizing,” said one YouTube comment. While another said, “ya’ll let Shane Dawson, Jeffree Star and James Charles slide but you’ll bully her off youtube?” Fans are also bringing up a video in which Jenna joined reality tv stars in a game where they drew cards. Her card asked how she has contributed to privilege and while the other stars told her to draw a new card, she refused. “If I just throw this card away I’m contributing to privilege.” Jenna was praised for the answer she gave.
