ITV Sticks By ‘The X Factor UK’ Despite Low Ratings
It’s not exactly a secret that The X Factor UK has been declining in the ratings over the last few years. That’s why producer Simon Cowell is trying all kinds of gimmicks and stunts to interest viewers. In spite of it nightly being clobbered by the dancing competition show Strictly Come Dancing, ITV says it’s sticking by the venerable old show.
Just what are we talking about here as far as numbers? The X Factor draws about 4.3 million viewers every night as opposed to Strictly Come Dancing‘s 10 million. This is down from a high 7 years ago of 17 million viewers for their 2010 finale. What makes ITV happy though is that The X Factor wins in the coveted 16-34-year-old demographic. Seems it’s the olds that are watching Strictly Come Dancing. Those are the prime target ages for advertisers. That is why ITV will keep The X Factor UK around another year.
It’s funny what people get tired of watching. Humans are fickle creatures and, even though The X Factor has been great this year, it may go away in the near future. For the present though I think it is safe.
