In 2005, when Kechi was 16 years old, she survived a plane crash that killed 107 people. She suffered third-degree burns on 65 percent of her body. Kechi later moved to Texas for treatment, and underwent over 100 surgeries.
Kechi said music was an “escape” for her when she was recovering. She sang every day and dreamed of performing on a stage. “What happened to me was horrible, but I refuse to let it define me,” she said. “Instead, I draw strength from it.”
The singer performed Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” for her audition. The performance brought the AGT audience to their feet, and the judges were clearly moved by it. They also gave Kechi a standing ovation after she sang.

Kechi received four “yes” votes from the judges to move on after her audition, and she made it all the way to the finals, finishing in the Top 10 of Season 12. But that wasn’t the end of her AGT journey.

Although she didn’t win Champions, Kechi has continued to perform and appear as a motivational speaker. In 2018, she released the original song “Don’t You Dare.” She’s also pursuing an MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
Kechi uses her platform to advocate for causes such as bullying prevention. According to her website, she is currently working on her debut album, and she’s signed with a publishing company to work on her memoir.
