Adam Cunningham’s Record Breaking Season of ‘The Voice’

Adam Cunningham’s time on Season 13 of The Voice was a wild ride. Adam’s rendition of “Midnight Rider” by the Allman Brothers Band impressed coaches Blake Shelton and Jennifer Hudson. The country singer was applauded for the soul in his voice and for his charisma. When it was time for the Knockout Rounds, Adam was eliminated.
Before taking on one of the biggest stages in the world, Adam was a session singer in Nashville. The singer was hired to sing in recording sessions and live shows throughout the South. Adam grew up singing in the church with his parents. As a young adult the singer released two albums. His self titled gospel album was released in 2007 to little fanfare. Adam tried to enter the country genre with his follow up album What About Tonight. The singer was excited about the next chapter in his career until he lost motivation to perform during his divorce.
It wasn’t until Adam met his new wife Courtney that the singer felt inspired to pursue music again. With a baby on the way he decided to fight for his career. Hoping to reach a larger audience, Adam tried out for The Voice. When he was eliminated early on it seemed as though all hope was lost.
Fortunately for the singer, he managed to impress coach Adam Levine by the time his Knockout Round performance of Chris Stapleton’s “Either Way” was over. Levine had come around to Adam’s star quality, something he did not hear during the Blind Auditions. The Voice’s format allowed Levine to steal the singer and place him on Team Adam.
Adam Breaks a ‘Voice’ Record
It is always great for a contestant to break records on a show like The Voice. There have been contestants who broke records on the show because of their song renditions placing high on the iTunes chart and others who broke records for their performances garnering millions of views on Youtube. Unfortunately for Adam, he broke the record for most comebacks of all time on the show. Not a comeback à la Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together.” Rather a comeback from finding himself having to be saved three times.
First Levine saved Adam when he lost his Knockout Round against Esera Tuaolo. As Season 13 began to heat up, Adam found himself in the Bottom and won the Instant Save twice. Adam was first saved against fellow contestant Jon Mero. The second time Adam was saved brought an onslaught of backlash because his save sent Season 13 standout Janice Freeman home.
Adam continued to create music his way after The Voice. He released his single “Sing It Again” soon after being eliminated from the singing competition. The country singer has consistently played live shows across the South and has performed for charities that benefited Nashville’s disaster relief efforts.
In 2019 Adam was saved again. This time it was his life. Adam faced an uphill battle after doctors found a cancerous tumor growing in his eye. The rare condition could have been more severe if it was detected later. After two surgeries and radiation Adam was back in the studio doing what he loved.
The singer released his latest EP America in 2020. He has performed live shows at Shelton’s Ole Red bar as well. Most recently, the father of one worked on the music for the Fox country drama Monarch.
