George Floyd Darnella Frazer Witness

Darnella Frazer returned to the scene of George Floyd’s murder after posting the now-viral video that sent shockwaves around the world. She explained through tears that its hard for her to find the right words or emotions to describe the traumatizing racism-fueled killing that she witnessed.

Darnella Frazier Witnessed George Floyd’s Last Dying Breaths

“I watched this man die. I was the one that recorded the whole thing” she says in this video after returning to the outside of the store where Floyd was killed. She said she “was walking my cousin to the store and I just see him on the ground.” The video went viral as yet another killing of a black man at the hands of a white man in a completely uncalled for and unjust act of racism. It is clear that she never expected to see someone dying as she walked her husband to the store. She fought back tears the entire time she was explaining what she saw.

Frazier said that she could physically see that Floyd could not breathe at all. She uttered his dying words “Please, I can’t breathe.” But she also said that they, referring to the cops did not care. “They killed this man,” she said. She also said that she was about five feet away from the officer that was kneeling on Floyd’s neck causing him to not be able to breathe. She called the experience “traumatizing.” Frazier joined some of the protesters that were seeking justice for Floyd’s death and for change to be made regarding police brutality.

She Faced Backlash From People Saying She Could Have Done More

After posting the video, Frazier had to deal with people saying she should’ve intervened int he situation and did something to stop the officer from kneeling on Floyd’s neck. Several people on Instagram accused Frazier of posting the video for “clout.” This led her to clear up rumors in a Facebook post. She said that without her posting the video, the police would’ve “swept it under the rug with a cover-up story.” She is only 17 years old and said that if she fought with police officers it would’ve only caused more problems and could have even caused more people to die.

This video is important in holding people accountable for what they did to Floyd who did not partake in any sort of violent crime. People need to see that this is a race issue and that the Minneapolis Police Department should be ashamed that their officer was overly aggressive to the point where someone, a black man, had to die.

Frazier said that Floyd’s family reached out to her regarding the video. They asked her what she knew about the incident as they look to open up a federal investigation against all of the officers involved.
