On World Prematurity Day, Tana Ramsay, wife of MasterChef star Gordon Ramsay reflected on the premature birth of their twins Jack and Holly 20 years ago. She also spoke about the tragic loss that the family suffered when she had a miscarriage back in 2016. Through it all, Gordon has stood by her side and been her biggest support system which she revealed in an interview with Loose Women.
Tana Ramsay Opened Up About How Gordon Ramsay Has Been So Supportive
Tana gave birth to the twins six weeks before they were due. She described the shock of having to give birth prematurely and the harrowing scene of having babies on ventilators. But the most heartbreaking part of it all was when Tana opened up about her miscarriage in 2016 while she was five months pregnant. Previously, Tana and Gordon mutually decided that he would not be present for the births of their children. Everything changed after losing the baby that they later named Rocky.
“Now because we’re older it’s quite interesting because I lost a baby in 2016 and Gordon was with me throughout that entire process and there is no way I could’ve done it without him right there by my side” she said. “When we went on to have Oscar, 19 months ago again he was right there by my side and I think you just have to do what absolutely suits you and the one thing that Gordon and I are very good at doing is communicating.”
“Everyone knows he’s good at chatting” she said about her husband. “What has happened is I have really come out of my shell…naturally I’m a bit more of a private person but going through the things we’ve gone through like losing our little boy Rocky I’ve learned that actually sharing my experiences has brought so many people forward to tell me about their experiences and I’ve found that really comforting.”
They Shared The News Of The Miscarriage Back In 2016
In June of 2016, Gordon took to Facebook to announce the devastating news. “Hi guys, Tana and I want to thank you so much for your support over the past couple of weeks” the MasterChef star wrote. “We had a devastating weekend as Tana has sadly miscarried our son at five months. We’re together healing as a family, but we want to thank everyone again for all your amazing support and well wishes.”
Later that year, the couples daughter Tilly embarked on a swim with her brother Jack in Los Angeles. Jack emerged from the water after an hour and 25 minutes but Tilly was nowhere to be found. Gordon had injured his Achilles and could not go into the water to look for his daughter.
“I felt helpless, so scared. I just looked at my wife Tana and we burst into tears” he said. “There was a search-and-rescue team out there in the water. Panic set in. I thought we’d lost Tilly. I thought, ‘God, what have I done? Why did I let her go?'”
Finally, Tilly emerged from the water and it was a huge sigh of relief for the family who had been through a lot that year after losing Rocky. The couple have been married for 24 years and have a bond that can get them through anything.
