Holiday Duets for Tonight’s ‘The Voice’ Revealed
Traditionally, when The Voice is down to eight contestants, the show shakes things up with “competitive mashup duets,” as the show’s site describes them. It moves singers outside their comfort zones, gives fans a chance to directly compare performances, and provides some interesting strategies for the performers: Are they trying to make their duet partners look good or outshine them? Fans vote for a duet, not an individual singer, so the right pairing can make or break a contestant.
NBC revealed tonight’s holiday pairings (sponsored by Target) via Instagram Story:
The line-up is:
Davon Fleming and Brooke Simpson
Adam Cunningham and Red Marlow
Keisha Renee and Addison Agen
Chloe Kohanski and Noah Mac
The pairings reveal some intriguing intentions from the show’s producers. While it certainly makes sense to put country singers Adam and Red together, it virtually gerrymanders all the country fans to support their duet, rather than splitting up the vote.
And is there some strategy behind matching Noah Mac, who is yet to crack iTunes’ top ten, with Chloe Kohanski, whose singles all seem to live there? Perhaps the producers hope Chloe can provide Noah with the iTunes juice that has eluded him. Because the producers want to send him off with a bang or because they want him to make it to the finals?
The other pairs are more straightforward. Brooke and Davon are big-voiced belters, so their duet should blow the roof off the theater. Keisha and Addison should make for a soulful, R&B-style performance, with a bit of Keisha’s country flair.
I think Chloe/Mac and Adam/Red will be the big winners here. My feeling is that Brooke and Davon’s combined fan bases won’t be a match for Addison and Keisha’s, and we’ll be seeing Brooke and Davon singing to avoid elimination on Tuesday.
What do you think of the pairings? Do you know who you’ll vote for already? Let us know in the comments.
