Here’s Why Gwen Stefani Started Crying At Kanye West’s Sunday Service
Returning Voice coach Gwen Stefani was recently moved by a tribute to one of her most famous songs. It just so happens to have been performed at rapper Kanye West’s exclusive Sunday Service. Gwen posted about it on Instagram this week.
What Is Kanye West’s Sunday Service?

In the clip, a choir performs a religious version of the No Doubt song “Don’t Speak.” The original song, which Gwen co-wrote with her brother Eric, is about her breakup with No Doubt bass player Tony Kanal. However, according to People, the choir changed the lyrics to say, “Lord speak, we know your words bring healing / the pain was real we’re feeling / please help us ’cause it hurts.”
Gwen wrote on Instagram that her “heart is so full,” adding, “I literally started crying.” She asked Kanye to please send her the full version of the performance. Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian later retweeted Gwen’s message with heart, halo, and prayer emojis.
As People explains, Kanye has been holding weekly Sunday Service since the start of the year. Other than his 50,000-guest Coachella crowd, the services are reportedly just open to his famous friends, including American Idol judge Katy Perry. Guests are even required to sign an NDA.

Kim told Elle earlier this year that the services are a “healing experience” for Kanye. “It’s just music; there’s no sermon,” she said. “It’s definitely something he believes in — Jesus — and there’s a Christian vibe. But there’s no preaching. It’s just a very spiritual Christian experience.”
Maybe Kanye will invite Gwen to one of his upcoming services. That is, when she’s not busy performing as part of her Las Vegas residency or filming the new season of The Voice. Gwen will be replacing longtime coach Adam Levine, who announced his departure from the show earlier this year.
