Stefani And Tony Kanal’s Breakup Story

It’s fair to say Stefani and Tony Kanal‘s breakup was not an easy ride. The singer has mentioned many times that it was her first real relationship and the breakup that followed, left her heartbroken.

“I was in love and obsessed with Tony Kanal, and he knows that,” she told Howard Stern in 2016. After the two split, they released single, ‘Don’t Speak’, claiming she feels weird listening to it:  “It’s still weird.  Even last night when I sang the song it’s still weird. I just rolled my eyes and walked away [like] really? You’re still feeling that?”

Kanal agreed, telling The Guardian the process of releasing and publicizing the song was ‘brutal’: “We were on tour for Tragic Kingdom for 28 months. We were going through the breakup, and in every interview we were talking about it so we were opening this wound on an hourly basis. It was so brutal but I don’t know how we made it through,”
