Gwen Stefani Addresses Rumors She Left ‘The Voice’ For ‘American Idol’
Gwen Stefani was one of the most popular judges on The Voice for several years. She even met her sweetheart, Blake Shelton, on the show. She announced that she will not be returning to the show and has been replaced by Miley Cyrus. But did she leave to join the American Idol reboot as a judge?
American Idol is returning to ABC next year and speculation is running high on who the judges are going to be. Katy Perry announced that she will be one of the judges but as yet no one else has been added to the panel. Several names have been bandied about including Lionel Richie and Adam Lambert. There was also a pretty virulent rumor that Gwen Stefani will join Katy on the classic singing competition’s reboot. Gwen addressed these rumors to E! News and said,
“That would, like, I don’t know. You never know what could happen. You just never know…but I doubt it.”
Hmm, there’s a lot of equivocation there. She doubts it, but seems to be open to the possibility. What it might come down to for the network is money. They are reportedly paying Katy Perry 25m to appear on the show. They may not be able to afford a judge of Gwen Stefani’s level. It’s not like she is going to work for scale. Stefani joked of Katy Perry’s payday that,
“I think she got all the money! I think there’s no more left!”
Possibly. Quite possibly.
