This week on The Voice Australia, a Grammy-winning singer did an undercover Blind Audition. And she turned all four chairs!
Watch her amazing audition, singing her own song below.
That’s right, it was none other than Jess Glynne! Jess is probably best known in the US for her songs “Rather Be” with Clean Bandit and “These Days” with Rudimental, Macklemore, and Dan Caplen. In the UK, she has had SEVEN #1 hits total. And “Rather Be” earned her a Grammy for “Top Dance/Electronic Song.”
So obviously it was no surprise when Jess turned all four chairs. As soon as all the coaches turned around, they instantly knew it was her. Her voice and look are very recognizable! And she’s definitely an impressive, entertaining vocalist. Boy George, Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, and Kelly Rowland were all up and dancing. Boy George even made a joke about her being there. Jess explained that she was in Australia for her tour. Though now, she is actually in the UK opening for The Spice Girls!
Other Celebrity Blind Auditions
This isn’t the first time a celebrity has done a Blind Audition! In season 15, coach Adam Levine “auditioned” with Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer.” He, of course, turned all three chairs of the remaining judges as well. Pharrell even came and turned around Adam’s own chair for him.
Neil Patrick Harris also famously went undercover to audition for The Voice. This was part of his variety sketch show at the time. With a full disguise on, he sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls. Unfortunately, no coaches turned their chairs. But they were quickly amused when he removed his disguise!
Kathie Lee and Hoda also did a joint Blind Audition for The Voice two seasons ago. They sang “You’ve Got a Friend” and turned all four chairs. But for some reason, I have to believe this was just for a promo. The coaches complimented their voices and were impressed by their singing abilities.
