Grace Davies Sets The Record Straight About ‘X Factor UK’ “Fix”
On Saturday’s The X Factor UK premiere there were two or three singers that really stood out. Grace Davies quickly became one of the favorites to win. Then the British press did what it does and dug up some suspicious dirt on Grace: she had already released a record and had performed at a concert with past X Factor contestant Olly Murs. Is it be possible that she was a ringer and the whole thing was fixed?
It didn’t look good, or at least it looked fishy. Grace was quick to clear up what really happened. She said she did release an album a couple of years ago but it’s not what it looks like. She explained,
“I did release an EP when I was 18. But it was self-released! I have never ever had a record contract. I wrote all of the songs on there when I was 16, turning 17. Then I organized for a band to come to a local studio to record the music with me. I didn’t have a manager or a record label. But I posted the clips on the internet in the hope that my friends and family would share them. I have never been signed to a record label in my life. That’s why I’m on X Factor!”
What about performing with Olly? She said that it sort of just happened. They were both hired to sing at a private event and Olly asked her to join him on stage during his performance. She said,
“I was performing at a private event for a friend of mine. They asked me to sing a couple of songs and they booked Olly too. When he was on stage singing, he pulled me up from the audience saying, ‘Come on, Gracie!’ So I just went up there with a mojito in one hand and a microphone in the other, thinking, ‘What is happening?’ It was such an amazing, off-the-cuff moment. Apparently, there’s a video of it on the internet.”
I for one am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. These things happen and it doesn’t necessarily mean there is a fix. Plus I want to hear her sing some more.
