Former American Idol star Gabby Barrett has had an amazing year, as her song “I Hope” grew in popularity and she released her first album Goldmine. The country star is even outperforming people like Blake Shelton.

Blake himself shared Billboard‘s end-of-the-year list of top country songs on Twitter. Gabby’s “I Hope” just so happens to have beat him out for the top spot. Check out the list below.

Gabby Barrett Tops Country Songs List

Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope” was the top country song of 2020, according to Billboard. In comparison, Blake Shelton’s duet with fiancée Gwen Stefani, “Nobody But You,” was in fifth place.

That’s still something to celebrate for Blake and Gwen, but it’s notable that recent talent show star Gabby beat out two celebrity talent show judges for the top spot. It just goes to show that success really is still possible after competing on shows like American Idol.

Gabby Barrett placed third on the show’s third season. She’s since had huge streaming success over the past year, and even won the CMT Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year. She was also nominated for two CMA Awards and an ACM Award.

Is Gabby Proof That ‘Idol’ Still Produces Stars?

Back in the day, American Idol winners like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood became huge stars. In recent years, even the most successful contestants don’t reach the same level of stardom.

Katy Perry has pointed to Gabby Barrett as an example of how the show can still produce superstars. “Gabby Barrett just had a No. 1 country song last week,” Katy told a contestant last season. “She didn’t even win the show. If you get to be Top 10, that could be your future next year. It’s all what you make of it. Your dreams are in your hands at this point.”

At just 20 years old, Gabby has plenty of time to grow her career, and she’s off to an amazing start. She’s also growing her family, as she and husband Cade Foehner are currently expecting their first child.
