Harry Styles’ look has really gone through an evolution since his days singing with One Direction on The X Factor. We’ve definitely seen him rock both the casual laid back look and also delve into the world of high fashion and rocked a flounce collar blouse. Let’s take a deep dive into the evolution of Harry’s looks over his decade long career.
Harry Styles Debuted A Casual Look During His Audition On ‘The X Factor’
When the world first met 16-year-old Harry, he opted for a more casual look. Wearing a white t-shirt with a grey cardigan and black jeans, he gave a performance of the song “Isn’t She Lovely” on the show in 2010. Teenage girls all over the world first began swooning over him and maybe it was his scarf that he accessorized with that left everyone with heart eyes. His swoopy curly hair became his signature iconic look for the years of success that followed.
While Harry didn’t make it as a solo artist on the show, he was put into a group that later became One Direction. From there on, they were styled and dressed to look like one cohesive group. He often wore buttoned-down shirts and khakis or jeans and baseball tees in the first few years of One Direction’s success after they were eliminated from The X Factor and signed to Simon Cowell’s record label, Syco.
Towards the end of his time with One Direction, he really had a knack for wearing suits with funky patterns and bold colors. The red and black pinstriped suit that he wore to the 2014 British Fashion Awards is pretty iconic. He also noticeably began growing out his hair and got quite a few tattoos including a cross tattoo on his hand.
At the 2015 American Music Awards, he opted for yet another show-stopping suit, this time with a white floral pattern. And, the hair got even longer. He also opted for a bolo tie.
Harry’s Look Changed Significantly After The Band Went On Hiatus
After One Direction went on hiatus in January of 2016, Harry went on to promote his solo music and got even bolder with his look. In 2017, he embarked on a solo tour and served us some of the most stunning looks ever performing hits from his very successful self-titled album. He wore a pink satin Gucci suit with very intricate details on the pants. And, everyone was quick to notice that he cut off his long locks.
You need to see some of the details on his suits up close because the beading and artistry definitely took hours to complete. There’s literally nobody else that could pull off wearing this.
Perhaps one of his most memorable suits is the red and black diamond pattern that he wore to the iHeart Festival in 2017. He had his hair off of his face, and opted for a white ascot.
Talk about being bold in blue. The “Adore You” singer opted for a blue velvet Gucci suit at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. His hair got a bit long again and he combed it over to the side.
Harry Styles Has Become A Fashion Icon
Ok, let’s be real, everyone’s jaws were on the floor when Harry showed up for the 2019 Met Gala in New York City. He wore a single dangle pearl earring that sent the internet into a frenzy as his ode to the Victorian Era singlehandedly won the night. The Gucci masterpiece included a black see-through blouse with high waisted black trousers and high heeled black boots. It was a dramatic change from his previous tour wardrobe but a good surprise for those who were expecting him to wear something head-turning. His slicked-back hair really completed the entire look. He also had a bit of a subtle mustache.
His recent “Watermelon Sugar” music video really showed off a whole new side of his wardrobe. It was a very 60s look inspired by hippies. There were quite a few show-stopping outfits in the video including a pair of orange flared trousers and a geometric patterned blouse. In one part of the video, he wore light blue sunglasses and a pearl necklace. Yeah, he’s definitely an icon. And of course, the subtle mustache was back.
And in the most shocking look of all, Harry has recently grown a full-blown mustache! In a visit to Villa Manodori, Harry posed with a bottle of balsamic vinegar in a green and white striped tee. He wore yellow shades and casual jeans and sneakers. We cannot get over his fully grown out mustache. It’s a totally new look for Harry who has never really debuted facial hair before other than some stubble here and there and never really let it get long like this.
Which look of Harry’s do you think is the most iconic? And, how do you feel about his new mustache?
