Brennan Villines, a singer who competed on The Four recently called out The Masked Singer Serpent. Brennan feels The Serpent stole his arrangement of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers. Brennan posted a side-by-side video of the two performances with a lengthy caption after he feels like the show stole his “intellectual property.”

‘The Four’ Singer Brennan Villines Called Out ‘The Masked Singer’ Serpent

When Brennan first performed the song on The Four, he had the coaches in tears. He sat at the piano and delivered some heartbreaking vocals. He was eliminated after his second performance because The Four was just simply a cutthroat competition. But nonetheless, he still had a pretty memorable television debut. After his elimination, he spoke highly of the show. “I was able to present myself the way I wanted with no interference from producers or the network,” he said. The arrangements he performed on the show were his own.

Now, Brennan is pretty fed up after watching a recent episode of The Masked Singer. “Pretty normal for someone to go on a singing show and sing Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’ or Stevie’s ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’ for the thousandth time. @fox cast me on @thefouronfox because they were committed to honoring and highlighting real and original art of working artists” he wrote on Instagram.

“I came to the show with this arrangement. Not my song of course but, my years of work and artistry created this arrangement and vibe” he continued. “This summer, they decided to use it for someone in a singing snake costume. @doctor.elvis.francois a great singer no doubt, sang it note for note but, I can’t help but feel a little ripped off considering that my intellectual property (which is not yours after signing your life away to a major network, unfortunately) was used and went completely unrecognized.” The Serpent on The Masked Singer was unmasked to reveal viral singing sensation, Dr. Elvis Francois.

The Pandemic Has Made It Difficult For Brennan To Find Work

Brennan concluded his Instagram post by saying “2020 has been a treacherous one for so many, including artists and musicians.” He has “had virtually zero gigs and zero income and even had to move back home. The singing surgeon got a record deal.”

Dr. Elvis, a 35-year-old orthopedic surgeon definitely had a breakout year, especially after he got to perform on “The iHeart Living Room Concert for America” on FOX. He released a new album back in April called  “Music is Medicine” to raise money for The Center of Disaster Philanthropy’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

His big reveal on The Masked Singer literally made judge Ken Jeong cry. “Your version of ‘Imagine’ got us through the pandemic, man,” Ken said through tears during the episode. “I told my wife who’s also a doctor…’That’s what a real doctor does, man’…This guy is smarter than any doctor on the planet and there’s just truly no one more talented than him.”

Do you think that The Serpent’s arrangement of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” sounds the same as Brennan’s arrangement on The Four?
