Former ‘Arab’s Got Talent’ Contestant SHOCKS Simon Cowell With Plastic Straws [VIDEO]
BGT contestant Hasan Minawi has had one of the most surprising auditions of the current season. The 48-year-old amazed the judges with his unique act, in which he makes music using only plastic straws.
Hasan, who is from Jordan, previously competed on Arab’s Got Talent in 2012, but didn’t make it to the live shows. Now he’s hoping to go far on Britain’s Got Talent. Check out his audition below.
Hasan Minawi Auditions For ‘BGT’ With Straws
Hasan explained that he’s a music teacher, and said he would be performing music for the judges. Before he started, host Ant McPartlin wondered where his instrument was. That’s when Hasan pulled a plastic straw out of his pocket.
The straw had holes cut into it, and Hasan proceeded to blow into it, playing “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic. After that, he pulled out a few more straws and made them sound like bagpipes. He finished up with a rendition of “La Bamba” that had the audience on their feet and clapping along.
According to The Mirror, Hasan has been playing the straw for 10 years, having been inspired by one of his students who forgot to bring an instrument to class. He told the student to use his drinking straw as an instrument.
What Did The Judges Think Of Hasan’s Audition?
Hasan calls his invention the Minawi straw, and he even has a patent for it, according to the BGT Wiki. Check out one of his past public performances with the straws in the video above.
Hasan received a standing ovation from the audience and three of the judges after his audition. Simon Cowell was so surprised by the performance that he couldn’t stop giggling during his critique.
“This is something we weren’t expecting or have seen before,” he said between laughs, as Amanda Holden and the audience chuckled along with him. The judges voted to send Hasan through to the next round of the competition.
