Father With Heartbreaking Story Brings Baby To Tearful ‘Idol’ Audition [VIDEO]
Marcio Donaldson grew up in Compton, California a neighborhood with a lot of shootings and violence. He auditioned for season 16 of American Idol looking to provide a better life for his son. Marcio shared his heartbreaking story and how his son changed his life in his audition below.
Marcio Donaldson Revealed Emotional Journey To Becoming A Father
Marcio spoke about being exposed to substance abuse and people dying at young ages all around him. He grew up in a roach-infested apartment and was placed in the foster care system with his sister. Finally, he was able to find refuge in music. Marcio’s sister had a child later on but after being involved with drugs, she chose not to keep the baby.
The police and a social worker came to Marcio’s home with the baby and made him choose whether to keep the child or let him go into the system. He took the baby and defined it as a life-changing decision and even decided to bring him to his American Idol audition.
Luke Bryan grabbed the baby and held him at the judge’s table for the entirety of the audition. Baby Rashad had all of the judges falling in love with him when he made his television debut at just six months old. Though he is not the biological father, Marcio refers to Rashad as his son.
Marcio made it clear that he wanted to give Rashad a better life by trying out for American Idol. He sang “Jealous” by Labrinth for his audition. Rashad watched as his dad belted his heart out. At the end of the song, Marcio burst into tears. Lionel Richie walked over to Marcio to give him a hug.
He Made It To The Next Round Of The Competition
“Man your voice is a real voice and that’s what we’re after, the real voice” Luke said. “Is it technically perfect? No man but it’s real. You ride that horse as far as it could take you.”
“I think you’re a really sensitive, emotional, beautiful, vulnerable soul,” Katy Perry said. “I think we’re always looking for people to sing with their feelings and I really like that from you.”
“I really liked your delivery, I like who you are and it’s perfect for what we need on American Idol” Lionel added. Marcio advanced on in the competition and made it all the way to the Top 14 where he sang “It’s a Miracle” by Barry Manilow. He was eliminated from the competition after America and the judges failed to choose him as a Top 10 finalist.

Where Is Marcio Donaldson Now?
After competing on American Idol, Marcio has continued to pursue a career as a singer and model along with being a father. He recently traveled to Chicago for a day of photshoots.

He recently posted an adorable video with Rashad over on Twitter, making it clear that he is on daddy duty at all times. But, he still manages to find the balance of having a career as an artist.
