It’s insane to think about how Jimmie Allen was once an American Idol hopeful. This country super star originally appeared on the series singing “Sunday Morning” by Maroon Five for his audition. Since he didn’t get much screen time, we don’t know how the judges reacted to the audition and we didn’t seen him in Hollywood round. He made it into the final 61 and continued into the Las Vegas Round. He once again wasn’t shown much in this round, but he advanced. Allen faced elimination before the Top 24.
Following American Idol, he went on tour with that season’s winner Scotty McCreery. In 2016, he signed a publishing deal with Wide Open Music, and a songwriting imprint formed by singer-songwriter Ash Bowers. A year later he signed to Stoney Creek imprint. Allen released his debut single in 2018, which became the second most-added song to country music radio playlists.
Due to the success of his single, his debut album, Mercury Lane, released soon after. The album, as well as the single continued to earn fame for the singer. In present day, Allen has become the first Black solo performer to win New Male Artist of the Year at the 2021 ACM Awards. He later won New Artist of the year at the CMA Awards. This summer he’s set to go on tour with American Idol alum Carrie Underwood.
