Doesn’t it feel like every celebrity has been posting apologies lately? The same was the case for popular Youtuber Shane Dawson who posted a four-page long apology in a since-deleted tweet. This comes after he was accused of purposefully involving himself in drama to tarnish James Charles’ career. Shane declared that he would be quitting the YouTube beauty community, but many are wondering why he decided to do this after his successful “Conspiracy” collaboration and show with Jeffree Star was a huge money-maker. Was it all just for money?
In case you missed it, YouTuber Tati posted a video titled “Bye Sister” in which she exposed James for being a “sexual predator.” This led to James losing a significant amount of subscribers and always being at the center of drama and ridicule. New information has come to light in the past few weeks that point to Jeffree and Shane orchestrating the events leading up to the video. Fans think the pair manipulated Tati into making the video and encouraged her to tell the world to cancel James.
Was Shane Dawson’s Friendship With Jeffree Star Was Driven By Money?
After the success of the “Conspiracy” collaboration and The Secret World Of Jeffree Star, Shane and Jeffree became pretty good friends. But, lately, it seems both creators have been making headlines for the wrong reasons. Whether it be instances in the past where they have worn blackface or said racial slurs, some of there actions have fans labeling them as problematic. And Shane’s apology seems like it wasn’t an apology at all, but merely an opinion piece dragging the YouTube beauty community. He wrote “The beauty gurus who are ALWAYS involved in scandals are ALL THE F***NG SAME. They are all attention-seeking, game playing, egocentric, narcissistic, vengeful, two-faced, ticking time bombs ready to explode. And I’m OVER it.” This seems like it was directed towards James, but people couldn’t help but point out that Jeffree is also always involved in scandals.
Shane attested that Jeffree is still his friend and knows that he causes drama. “Yes, Jeffree is in that list of dramatic gurus (and would admit that) and he will always be family to me and I love him despite those characteristics. He’s VERY aware of the fact that I don’t agree with many of the ways he approaches situations and I have been very honest with him about needing to make some changes.” What is the point of being friends with someone that is always involved in drama? An answer to this question could definitely be money and fame.
The Apology Was Not Good Enough For Fans Of The YouTuber
Point blank, this whole rant did not sit well with fans or former fans. Shane did not say that he would stop being friends with Jeffree, but just that he did not agree with some of the things that Jeffree was doing. Jeffree was already involved in drama and has been for years before he became friends with Shane.
One Twitter user said that what Shane tweeted was not an apology.
Others posted screenshots of text messages where Jeffree trash-talked James and anticipated him getting canceled by Tati. One factor in all of this was Shane and how he was friends with Jeffree behind the scenes and was clearly on his side of things. They even restocked their makeup palette several times after all the drama unfolded, making them millions of dollars while all of this was going down.
Shane Denied His Time In The Beauty Community Was Motivated By Money
Shane continued his apology by saying that the beauty community “is obsessed with looks, money, power, fame, screenshots and subtweets.” He went on to say that he regrets being wrapped up in the drama and blames himself for that. But for him, he does not want to be involved in it ever again. The thing is if Shane knew this was the case, why did he join the beauty world, to begin with? The line that stuck out the most was “I love what I was able to create with Jeffree and I’m sure people are going to assume I only did it for money, but that’s not true. I just am choosing to no longer be apart of that world.” People on Twitter basically think that once Shane made his money off of the Jeffree collaboration, he decided he was done.
One Twitter user said that Shane “got a check and left.”
Others seemed to agree that his actions said one thing and his words said another because he only had his sights on the money.
Do you think Shane Dawson did the Jeffree Star collaboration just for the money?
