Was there ever any romance between American Idol judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul? Paula recently set the record straight about the tension between the pair in the show’s early days.
As Today points out, Simon jokingly told Barbara Walters in 2011 that there was some “sexual tension on her [Paula’s] part.” So was it just a joke, or was there really something going on between them?

On a recent episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, a fan called in to ask Paula this very question. “There was always so much tension between you and Simon Cowell,” the caller said. “Did anything romantic ever happen?”
When host Andy Cohen clarified the question, Paula immediately responded, “No! No! I mean … ew, no!” She left it at that, but it seems to sum it up pretty well.
While they were on the topic of American Idol, Paula also shared her thoughts on America’s love for Sanjaya in Season 6. “Sanjaya had his moment, and everyone was voting for him because they thought it was fun and they liked him,” she said. “He’s a likable guy. And he’s talented, too.”
Simon Cowell And Paula Abdul Reunite
Simon and Paula have reunited a couple of times in recent weeks. During the AGT finale, Paula made a surprise appearance dancing with the Light Balance Kids. Her cameo delighted judge Simon Cowell. “How did you get up there?” he asked, calling the performance “brilliant.”
The pair also appeared together on The Kelly Clarkson Show, along with fellow judge Randy Jackson and Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini. Simon mentioned wanting to do another show with Paula and Randy, so let’s hope that happens!
