Country Singer Takes On “Like A Cowboy” On ‘The Voice’ — Did Blake Shelton Turn His Chair?
Everyone knows the sneer that overtakes Blake Shelton’s face whenever he hears a country artist begin to sing on The Voice. During Dexter Roberts’ audition in season 16, all eyes were on Blake as this country crooner belted out “Like A Cowboy.” Did Blake turn his chair? Check out Dexter’s audition below to find out.
Did Blake Shelton Turn His Chair For Dexter Roberts On ‘The Voice’?
Once the song began and everyone heard the country twang of Dexter’s voice, they were all waiting for Blake’s hand to press his button ad turn his chair. As the resident country expert, it seemed like the perfect match. Dexter’s smooth voice had everyone feeling the country vibes. During the chorus of the song, Blake along with Kelly Clarkson and John Legend all hit their buttons and turned their chairs at the same exact time. Adam Levine waited as he listened intently to the song.
The coaches gave Dexter a standing ovation and during the last few notes of the song which is when Adam finally turned his chair. He called the performance “astounding” while John complimented Dexter’s vocal abilities. But it really was an all-out battle between all four coaches to have Dexter on their teams. They encouraged Dexter to explore all of the options but ultimately he ended up choosing Team Blake.
This proved to be a great pairing for Dexter who made it all the way to the top three on that season. He even got to do a duet of “Hard Workin’ Man” with Blake. It was pretty epic. “It’s so overwhelming, man,” he said to describe his experience on the show. “I come from a small, small town. Things like this don’t happen to people like me.”
Where Is Dexter Now?
Season 16 of The Voice wrapped filming in the winter of 2019. Since then, many people also realized that Dexter had previously competed on American Idol in 2014. He gained a huge fanbase from being on two talent competition shows and definitely earned the love of country fans. Dexter still posts singing covers on Instagram and has amassed 41,600 followers.
He also hangs out with a lot of former ‘Voice’ contestants but has made it known that the coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench in some of his performance plans. “Miss Playing with my Boys! Maybe when all this COVID Crap is gone we can have us a concert!!” he wrote on Instagram.
He previously reflected on how it has been a year since he competed on The Voice. “Can’t believe it’s been a year! Thank you God for these amazing experience! Love and miss all my ‘Voice’ family!” he wrote.
