BIO: This American Idol winner found his love for soul and blues music after a tough childhood. At 16 years old he bought his first harmonica and taught himself to play the blues harp. During this time he also figured out that he had perfect pitch. At the age of 18 he began writing his own music, then went on to teach himself electric guitar and the church organ a year later.

Taylor Hicks was 29 years old at the time of his American Idol win and made history as the oldest winner of the series. Following the competition show, his debut single “Do I Make You Proud” debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was later certified Gold by RIAA. In the present day, Hicks has released three studio albums, two live albums, and a compilation album.
