Contestant Sings Sexy Usher Song On ‘The Voice’ — Was It Enough To Turn Usher’s Chair?
Singing one of the coach’s songs on The Voice is always a risky choice. You have to make it your own and also impress the person that has probably sung the song hundreds of times. Contestant Stevie Jo took on Usher’s hit “The Goes My Baby” in his season six Blind Audition. Was it enough to impress the king of R&B and turn his chair?
Stevie Jo Sang An Usher Song During His Blind Audition For ‘The Voice’
When Stevie first began singing, it was hard not to fall in love with his smooth tone. That combined with his incredible stage presence made for one sexy performance. The 19-year-old sounded well beyond his years. He belted out the song and took on some high notes towards the middle that really impressed Usher. Usher turned his chair in a bittersweet moment and Stevie could not wipe the smile off of his face for the rest of the performance. Usher also had a smile on his face, flattered that an artist chose to sing his song.
Since Usher was the only coach to turn his chair, Stevie automatically became a member of Team Usher. The other coaches maintained that they didn’t turn their chairs since they knew Stevie would choose Usher. “He sounds like Usher, he looks like Blake” Adam Levine said.
In the first Battle Round, Stevie went head to head against Jake Barker singing Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love.” It was a hard choice for Usher, but in the end, it was Stevie who advanced to the second Battle Round. Jake was actually stollen by Team Adam.
Once again he was victorious after singing “Story Of My Life” up against Morgan Wallen in his second battle.
Stevie then made it to the Playoffs where he sang “The Thrill Is Gone” by B.B. King. He was then eliminated from the competition. Stevie has also shared some more of his original music with his followers. “This is dope brotha. Can’t wait to hear more. Diggin the vibe” wrote one person on Instagram.
