Sister Cristina Scuccia auditioned for The Voice Italia in 2014 and it is no wonder her audition has gone viral. The nun from a convent in Milan belted her way through “No One” by Alicia Keys which got her a four-chair turn from the coaches. Take a look at her shocking Blind Audition below.

Sister Cristina Scuccia Shocked Everyone On ‘The Voice Italia’

Growing up in Sicily, Cristina always dreamed of becoming a singer. After her mother encouraged her to join a few church performances, she was hooked. She was inspired by one of the characters she played in a show, Sister Rosa. She joined the order in Rome when she was 20 years old and realized she could have both music and religion in her life.

From the second she stepped on The Voice Italia stage, she became an instant media sensation both because of her tremendous singing talent and the fact that it’s not every day that we see a nun in show business. On the show, Cristina ended up being on Team J-Ax and sang some smash hits throughout the competition like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

Her audition now has over 107 million views, making it the second most-watched ‘Voice’ audition of all time. Cristina gained so much momentum throughout the competition and was named the winner with 62% of the votes.

She Went On To Compete In Several Other Talent Shows

Cristina caught a bit of criticism from her church after covering Madonna’s “Like A Virgin.” Madonna has previously performed a mock crucifixion in Rome. Italy’s Religious Information Service  called her cover a “reckless and calculated commercial operation.” But she actually got the stamp of approval from Madonna herself who posted an Instagram picture with Cristina that said “Sisters for life.”

“Traditionalists say I shouldn’t be doing this,” she said in an interview with The Guardian. “But I believe that if God gave me the ability to sing, there’s a reason for it.” She released an album called  “Sister Cristina” right after her win featuring covers of some of the biggest songs of the decade including Coldplay.

She also has been very open about not earning anything after being on The Voice Italia. “I have taken a vow of poverty and we will use any revenue to help the projects of our (Ursuline) religious community,” she said.

Cristina also appeared on The World’s Best, singing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” While she earned a score of 78 during her audition, she failed to impress during the Battle Rounds. Her low score of 39 eliminated her from the competition.

In 2019, Cristina joined Italy’s Dancing with the Stars but only received a judges score of 33%.
