Choir Performs Emotional Song With Sign Language And Has Judges In Tears [VIDEO]
One of the most moving act on BGT this season might just bring you to tears. It certainly caused the judges to get pretty misty-eyed. The group is called Sign Along With Us, and they’re a choir that performs sign language while singing.
The group’s performance of “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman earned the Golden Buzzer from judge David Walliams earlier this season. Watch their performance and learn more about them below.
Sign Along With Us Auditions For ‘BGT’
The judges were first introduced to 18-year-old Jade and her little brother Christian, who’s 4. According to Facebook, Christian is visually impaired and has cerebral palsy, caused by a brain injury.
Christian’s family was told that he would never be able to communicate. Jade taught him sign language, and called him “a little miracle, proving everybody wrong.” They started a class to teach other people, and members of various ages got involved.
For their audition, the group wore colorful shirts reading THIS IS ME. They performed by both singing and signing the lyrics. Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden could be seen crying during the performance. At the end, the judges gave them a standing ovation.
Sign Along With Us Earns The Golden Buzzer
Amanda called the audition “really, really moving.” Alesha, meanwhile, said she “genuinely can’t find the words,” to which an audience member shouted, “Amazing!” She thanked them, seeming to agree.
Simon Cowell, meanwhile, recognized a member of the choir as “a friend of mine.” Her name is Ella, and he previously presented her with an award. Before the audition, she said she was in love with him.
Simon said the group defines “what this show should be all about.” He added, “This is an audition I will never, ever forget.” And we don’t think the audience will forget it either, as the group earned the Golden Buzzer.
David Walliams said the group sent an “amazing, positive message.” He proceeded to hit the Golden Buzzer, causing the members to jump up and down with joy. They even made snow angels in the confetti! We can’t wait to see what they do in the live shows.
