‘The Four’s Candice Boyd is a Finalist for iHeartRadio Rising Star

You might remember Candice Boyd (and her crazy epic runs) from the first season of The Four. As a newly independent artist, she initially impressed the judges with her cover of “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J Blige. She then beat out Ash Minor, one of the original members of The Four, to claim her seat. The next episode, she was eliminated in a battle against Tim Johnson Jr. But after returning as a Comeback Artist, she finished as the season’s runner-up. Now, she is one of five finalists competing to be this year’s iHeartRadio Rising Star!

Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star competition began in 2012. The annual contest was designed to spotlight up-and-coming music talent. It also gives the winning artist the opportunity to perform in Las Vegas, opening the iHeartRadio Music Festival. That’s right, the winner will be singing as part of a star-studded lineup featuring Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey, Sam Smith, and more!

Candice is as qualified as anyone to take the win here. Candice already has credits with some high-profile artists on her resume. She sang background for Nicki Minaj, co-composed a Tamar Braxton song, and collaborated with French Montana. In addition to that, Candice released her original song, “Make Me Over,” last year before her run on The Four. At the time, she had a recording deal with Epic Records. The song showcases her R&B/soul vocals and the lyrics are heartfelt. She reminisces over earlier days in a relationship when love made her feel beautiful.

But this isn’t the first time a talent show singer has been in the running for Rising Star either! The Voice’s Christina Grimmie won the competition in 2015. She was the first solo artist to take the title, following Megan & Liz, The Summer Set, and Before You Exit. Christina Grimmie opened the iHeartRadio Music Festival in 2015. She sang a few original songs, along with some covers from her time on The Voice. These included fan-favorites like “Wrecking Ball” and “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”

In order to win, Candice will have to beat out some pretty intense competition. This year, the other finalists include Heffron Drive (led by Big Time Rush’s Kendall Schmidt), Alli Simpson (Cody Simpson’s sister), and viral sensations Sam Tsui and Brooke Butler.

According to the “Leaderboard” on the site, Candice is currently in fifth place. But there’s still time to vote! If you want to see her crowned the next iHeartRadio Rising Star, vote here: http://macysrisingstar.iheartradio.com. Voting continues until July 1st.
