Contestants Turned Celebrity Judges
When looking at talent show judges, it’s always interesting to see celebrities that began their career on a show that end up judging them. In 2022, this has been seen quite a few times, but my favorite contestants turned judges have to be Kelly Clarkson and Louis Tomlinson.
Kelly Clarkson became nationally recognized after winning the inaugural season of American Idol. After becoming a huge celebrity, she became a recurring character on The Voice. She was first seen on this series as Blake Shelton’s mentor in season two, but returned later as season 13’s mega mentor.
Clarkson joined as a coach in season 14 (2018) and gained her first win with Brynn Cartelli. Following that season, she went on to win seasons 15, 17, and 21. Fans are sad to see her depart from the series after her fourth win.
Unlike Clarkson, Tomlinson was hailed into the limelight on The X Factor UK as part of One Direction and returned to the show later in life. Soon after One Direction’s split, Tomlinson began his solo career and joined the judging panel of The X Factor UK series 15. Ahead of this point he appeared as a guest judge at Judges’s Houses in series 12.
The Voice judging panel sees yet another talent show contestant turned judge this fall. Former X Factor USA star, Camila Cabello is joining the panel. For those that don’t know, Cabello was part of the all female pop group, Fifth Harmony from The X Factor USA. Similar to Tomlinson, Cabello has went on to have a successful career since leaving her group.
