Boxing Champion Viviane Obenauf Arrested In Suspected Murder Of 61 YO Husband

Brazilian boxer Viviane Obenauf was arrested this week after her husband was found dead in their Interlaken, Switzerland apartment. His body was found back in October, and authorities determined that “massive injuries due to blunt instrument” was the cause of death. According to the Daily News, Obenauf is the prime suspect in the beating.

Obenauf is a two-time world titleholder that actually retired from boxing one year ago. She had a 14-6 career with nine knockouts and started her young career at the age of 18. The now 34-year-old also held both the WBF International lightweight and WBA International super featherweight titles. Previously she represented Brazil at the Olympics in gymnastics before pursuing boxing.
The couple had only just gotten married back in January and opened a gym together. Thomas, 61 also owned a restaurant and his last name has been concealed due to Swiss privacy laws. After police searched their home above the restaurant and gym this week, they arrested Obenauf. They have not yet revealed what they found in either location that served as a cause for her arrest. Her Instagram account which she posted gym content on is private.

Candles, flowers and a makeshift memorial have been laid outside of the restaurant that the victim owned. Multiple media outlets have reported that there was previously a note on the restaurant’s door that said it was going to open up again on November 24th. However, with the looming investigation, the note has since been removed. The staff of the restaurant has been placed on furlough. It is unclear when the restaurant will be opened again. According to The Sun, her husband was very well-known and well-liked in town. “He was easy to get along with and worked with passion,” his friend said.
She Has Reportedly Been Involved In Violent Disputes Before
This is not Obenauf’s first run-in with the law. She has been involved in physical assaults outside of the boxing ring. According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, Obenauf had previously been arrested once before. She was reportedly involved in a confrontation at a London nightclub. Obenauf punched a man in the face after he groped her inappropriately as she was out celebrating her 30th birthday. She spent a few hours in jail in October 2016.
A man who briefly dated Obenauf spoke out saying he was not surprised that she was once again involved in a violent situation. “She always had two faces. It’s like flicking a switch” he said.

The Blick report also mentioned that Obenauf and her former powerlifting ex-boyfriend got into quite a few heated exchanges. He said on multiple occasions that she punched him to the point that he was bloodied in the face. He also admitted that he hit her back during their violent assaults.
