Bobby Bones To Become Full-Time ‘American Idol’ Mentor
American Idol‘s second ABC-produced season may still be months away from premiering, but the announcements are already rolling in. On Monday it was announced that country radio host Bobby Bones will be a full-time mentor to the contestants on the upcoming season.
We saw Bobby pop in to give advice to the contestants last season during the Top 24 stage of the competition as well as finale week, so he has some experience under his belt going into this new role as in-house mentor. And he makes sense for the gig from a network perspective, since he’s currently on Dancing With the Stars – another ABC program – and they do often like to “keep it in the family” with their casting choices.
While it might be interesting to see Bobby bond with the contestants and help shape their journeys over the course of the season, part of what has made Idol so much fun in the past has been having different people in the industry come in to offer their expertise each week. Hopefully the show will continue to bring in guest mentors in addition to having Bobby as a mainstay, because past contestants have definitely benefited from getting feedback on their performances and craft from multiple people.
American Idol will return for its next season on ABC in 2019.
