On Wednesday night, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani won the CMT Award for Collaborative Video of the Year for their song “Nobody But You.” The couple accepted the award from home.
During the speech, Blake shared his surprise over their win, and also said something about award shows that seemed to shock Gwen. Read on to find out how the couple responded to their win.
Blake Shelton And Gwen Stefani Win CMT Award
Wednesday’s win was especially big for Gwen Stefani, who is new to the country genre thanks to her duets with Blake. “My gosh! I can’t believe,” Gwen said while accepting the award. “Country music! This is like, what is happening in my life?”
Blake said he wasn’t expecting to win against the other nominees in their category, particularly Justin Bieber. He thanked the fans for voting for them, and then said something about the state of award shows that seemed to surprise Gwen.
“I really do believe that these award shows are beginning to lose credibility over the last few years,” he said, causing Gwen to gape at him. However, she then nodded, seeming to agree with him.
Blake went on to say, “Fan voted awards, to me, are really the only stand-up award shows left in our industry, it feels like sometimes. Because you guys are the ones that buy the records, you come to the shows, and you vote on these things.”
Who Else Won During The CMT Awards?
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani weren’t the only talent shows stars to win big during Wednesday’s awards. American Idol winner Carrie Underwood won both Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year for “Drinking Alone.”
Current American Idol judge Luke Bryan also took home the CMT Award for Male Video of the Year for “One Margarita.” Season 16 finalist Gabby Barrett, meanwhile, won Breakthrough Video of the Year for “I Hope.”
Gabby, who recently announced that she’s pregnant with her first child with husband Cade Foehner, also performed “I Hope” during the show. Cade appeared on stage with her playing guitar.
