Coach Blake Shelton just proved he’ll do just about anything to win The Voice this season. That includes bribing contestants to join his team using adorable puppies. It was hands down the cutest moment of Monday’s Season 18 premiere.
The silly moment happened after 16-year-old Tate Brusa’s audition. Both Blake and Nick Jonas turned around for the young singer, prompting some interesting competition. After Nick coached Tate on the stage, Blake pulled out the big guns. (Or rather, the little dog.)
Blake Shelton Brings Out A Puppy On ‘The Voice’
“I feel like I’m at a disadvantage,” Blake said. A crew member then brought the sweet little puppy out to him. Kelly Clarkson immediately got out of her chair to go over and pet the pup, and we can’t blame her.
Rather than offering to give Tate the puppy, Blake threatened to send it back to the animal shelter if he didn’t choose to join his team. He even gave the doggie an impromptu name: Snowflake.
Unfortunately, Blake’s ploy didn’t work out in his favor. Tate ended up choosing to join Team Nick instead. As cute as Snowflake is, and as funny as it was to watch, the move didn’t say much about Blake’s coaching ability. Sadly, The Voice is about singing, not cute animals.
Blake Extends His Puppy Threat On Twitter
After Tate’s audition aired during Monday night’s premiere, Blake Shelton kept the puppy act going on Twitter. “WOW, TATE!!!” he tweeted, adding that the episode was “the last time I saw Snowflake.” He went on to describe her tear-filled eyes, adding, “It’s a shame.”
However, Nick Jonas wasn’t going to let anyone think that anything bad happened to Snowflake. He tweeted at Blake asking him to “stop harassing” Tate, saying “Snowflake is fine.” He even said he gets “regular updates” from her owners.
The Voice retweeted Nick and confirmed this, adding, “Snowflake is happily eating dog treats.” We’re glad to hear it, although we wouldn’t object to a Snowflake cameo later in the season.
