If you’ve been waiting for Voice coaches Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to get married, get ready to wait even longer. New reports reveal that the couple wants to get hitched, but there’s something stopping them.
Blake and Gwen have been dating since 2015, after meeting on The Voice the year before. Fans of the couple have even coined the nickname Shefani to describe them. Read on to find out why marriage might be farther off than shippers hope.
Why Aren’t Blake Shelton And Gwen Stefani Married?
A source tells People that Blake has wanted to propose to Gwen from early in their relationship, and the romance is “headed toward marriage.” However, Gwen’s Roman Catholic faith could prevent them from having the church wedding she wants.
Back in March, Us Weekly reported that Gwen “began the formal process” to have her marriage to Gavin Rossdale annulled by church officials so that a marriage to Blake can be “recognized by the church.”
“Gwen’s religion has always been extremely important to her, and Blake is completely supportive of this,” the source shared. In fact, Blake has said that his own faith is stronger since dating Gwen.
“I believe in God now more than I ever have in my life,” he told the Tennessean. “If you take God out of it, it doesn’t make sense. If you put God into it, everything that’s happened with us makes sense.”
Will Blake And Gwen Ever Get Married?
Talk show host Wendy Williams recently addressed the latest Shefani news on her show. Wendy seemed to disagree with Gwen’s decision to let her faith stand in the way of her happiness.
“The world is going to hell. I’m gonna be happy,” Wendy said. “God will forgive me, I can’t be bothered with my church upbringing. ‘Cause that was a long time ago, when the world was a little different.”
Wendy also polled her audience to see how many people think they should “just get married anyway.” Most people agreed with her, but a few thought she should take her church’s wishes seriously.
What do you think? Should Gwen wait to get an annulment before marrying Blake? Should they just go for it anyway? Do they even need to get married, or should they keep things the way they are? Let us know in the comments.
