‘BGT’ Star Revealed As The Inspiration For Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’

If you’ve been listening to Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” and wondering who could have inspired the emotional track, we now have an answer. The song (and Lewis’s entire album) was reportedly inspired by a former BGT contestant.
According to The Scottish Sun, the 23-year-old Scottish singer dated former BGT star Paige Turley when they were in college together in Motherwell. Read on to find out what sources said, and to learn more about Paige.
Who Inspired Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’?
This news hasn’t been confirmed by Lewis or Paige, but sources say that he was “head over heels” for her while they dated “on and off” for about a year, five years ago. He was apparently “gutted” when they broke up, and went on to write the album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.
“Paige and Lewis were at first glance an unlikely pairing but they were passionate about singing and had a real respect for one another musically,” one source explained.
This certainly seems like it could fit what Lewis Capaldi himself said of the love that inspired his song: “I met a lady. She was very nice. I loved her. I loved the look of her and I loved how she spoke. We dated for a year and a half then she left me. Then I wrote an album about it and I still think about it every day.”
Who Is Paige Turley?
Paige appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2012, when she was 14 years old. She auditioned for the show with a cover of “Skinny Love,” and made it to the semifinals.
Simon Cowell told Paige after her audition, “I think you are absolutely fantastic.” David Walliams, meanwhile, told her, “I think you look and sound like a pop star.”
She has since released several covers and original songs on her YouTube page, and earlier this year she performed at Usher Hall in Edinburgh. We wonder what she thinks about possibly inspiring such a popular song.
