Filipino Singer Stuns On ‘Asia’s Got Talent’
Judge David Foster pointed out that Gerphil seemed nervous when she stepped onto the Asia’s Got Talent stage. She acknowledged that she was “super nervous,” explaining, “One of my favorite artists is here. In fact, he’s one of the judges.”
She was talking about David himself, which is why it was so special when he hit the Golden Buzzer for her after she performed the song “Speak Softly, Love.” Gerphil showed off a strong, classical voice that would be perfect for Broadway.
The judges gave her a standing ovation. David called it a “solid performance,” praising her pitch. Vanness Wu said she could perform in something like Les Misérables. Melanie C said she “couldn’t tell a hint of nerves,” calling it a “lovely performance.”
How Far Did Gerphil Go On ‘Asia’s Got Talent’?
The Asia’s Got Talent audience chanted for judge David Foster to push the Golden Buzzer for Gerphil’s audition. He listened to their suggestion, automatically sending her to the semifinals. Afterward, he said he didn’t do it because she’s a fan of him, but “because she has talent.”
Gerphil ended up finishing the competition as the second runner-up. After the show, she performed solo concerts and joined David Foster on his Asian tour for 2015-16. This July, she celebrated her one-year wedding anniversary with husband Brad Libanan.
