Veterans Voices Of Service Put On An Inspirational Performance On ‘AGT’
Voices of Service hoped to show how music therapy can help men and women who have served in the military that are coping with PTSD. They performed an incredible rendition of Katy Perry’s “Rise” complete with perfect harmonies.
The group received a standing ovation from the judges and the audience. “First of all, I can’t thank you enough for your service because you doing what you do allows us to do what we do,” Howie Mandel said once the crowd settled down. “And the fact that music can be helpful and it is a tool, it’s beautiful and important and right.”
“The arts, music, dance or whatever it is, it’s a universal language where we all feel connected and what you’re doing is phenomenal” Julianne Hough said. Gabrielle Union also agreed that everything about the performance was remarkable. “Your story is amazing, your message is amazing but what I loved is the vocal arrangement was stunning…it was a version I’ve never heard before,” Simon Cowell said. “This is what we need right now.”
Voices of Service were sent into the Judge Cuts where they sang Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” which prompted another standing ovation from the judges. They made it to the live shows without question and gave a stunning performance of Leona Lewis’ “Footprints in the Sand” during the Finals. They finished the competition in fifth place.
They also went on to compete in the second season of ‘AGT: Champions’ where they sang Kodaline’s “Brother.” Though they received praise from the judges they did not receive enough votes from the superfans to advance on in the competition.
Where Are They Now?
After appearing on ‘AGT,’ Voices of Service reflected on the experience. “It was a wonderful experience,” they said in an interview with Northern Virginia Magazine. “You have to understand, we didn’t go into it thinking that we were going to get as far as we did. For us, it was going into it to deliver a message. If we were helping folks, then in our eyes, we won.”
