‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ Releases First Teaser
We still have to wait a couple more months until America’s Got Talent: The Champions premieres on January 7. Luckily, the show completed filming last month and we have now been treated to a little bit of that footage in a new preview of the show!
The promo is admittedly pretty short, but that’s probably a good thing since that means it doesn’t give too much away (it is just a teaser, after all). It reiterates the concept of bringing some of the best and most memorable acts from past Got Talent seasons together to compete, and we get to see a quick clip of Terry Crews doing his thing as a first-time host for the franchise.
But best of all, the preview features a bunch of the acts we’ll be seeing on the show! Some of them flash by pretty quickly so they may be hard to catch, but how many can YOU spot?
Some performers of note in the montage of new footage include viral sensation and Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle, America’s Got Talent Season 10 finalist Piff The Magic Dragon, and roller-skaters Billy and Emily England, who finished in the semi-finals on both BGT and AGT.
And while we didn’t see any new clips of them, it’s probably also worth noting the promo included flashback clips of several other AGT acts like card magician Shin Lim, dance group Light Balance, danger duo Deadly Games, and singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer. (And in the case of aerial contortionist Sofie Dossi, we saw both old and new footage of her, though only a fraction of a second of the latter.)
But perhaps most intriguing of all is the inclusion of danger act Ryan and Amberlynn, who had an infamous accident with a flaming arrow during the live quarter-finals back in AGT Season 11. While there were no serious injuries, the pair was eliminated during the following evening’s results show, so I’m sure they’ll be extra-hungry to prove themselves on Champions. (And from the looks of that very short snippet we saw of them, it looks like they’re attempting the same trick again – hopefully with more success this time!)
One other thing to note: There’s a clip of Simon Cowell referring to the show as “the Olympics of talent”. That’s a phrase we’ve heard used pretty recently…CBS’s The World’s Best, another upcoming TV talent show set to premiere this winter. For some reason, it’s become a sort of trend to compare reality competition shows to the Olympics (NBC’s World of Dance does this too, for, well, dance). But it remains to be seen which show will actually be able to claim that title once their respective seasons air.
America’s Got Talent: The Champions will premiere Monday, January 7 on NBC.
