‘America’s Got Talent’ Is The #1 Broadcast Summer Show
The ratings are in and America’s Got Talent is the winner of the summer TV viewership on broadcast TV with 16.2 million views, which is up 15% from last year. That’s just the people who are watching it on TV not to mention everyone who sees it online. This is without a doubt the biggest season yet.
So-called experts out there in the media writing world like to declare broadcast TV dead, but that’s nonsense. People definitely still tune in, especially to watch shows like America’s Got Talent. They want to experience all of the drama, the great performances, and to check out how deep the v-cut neckline is on Simon Cowell‘s t-shirt. This season has been very viral video friendly, whether it’s Darci Lynne Farmer‘s audition video, (the most shared video in AGT history), or Kechi ripping it up with her rendition of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud.
Broadcast TV is still the best way to reach the biggest audience. People are disconnecting their cable in record number. Why pay for a million channels that you don’t watch? What do I care about the golf channel? Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I like broadcast TV. It’s democratic, hence the popularity of shows like AGT.
