‘America’s Got Talent’ Hopeful Evie Clair’s Father Passes Away
Only a day after Evie Clair moved on to the finals on America’s Got Talent, her father Amos Abplanalp passed away after his year long battle with colon cancer. How she was able to perform so well given the circumstances is a testament to her strength.
We’ve all been following 13-year-old Arizona native Evie Clair’s journey on America’s Got Talent and her perseverance in spite of the fact that her father was very sick. Amos was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer last year and has been undergoing treatment. He was able to attend the auditions and a couple of shows this summer but his health quickly declined. On Tuesday, right before Evie was to perform in the semifinals, Amos was put on life support. The family told Evie after her performance. They decided to let her stay through the results show on Wednesday, where she advanced to the finals thanks to the Dunkin’ Save. The show’s producers, including executive producer Simon Cowell, were made aware of the situation. This is partly why we saw Simon get choked up after Evie’s performance on Tuesday.
The show arranged for the family to return to Arizona right after the results show. On Thursday Evie’s mother Hillary made the painful decision to take Amos off life support and he passed soon after. The family is still in Arizona and are processing the loss. We urge all fans to respect their privacy in this difficult time.
However, that at the time of this writing, Evie is still planning on competing in the finals. She and her family believe it would be what her father would have wished. That’s some real dedication from a 13-year-old girl.
Having recently lost a parent myself I cannot imagine how difficult it is to face her grief on such a public stage. Luckily, AGT has been very supportive during this difficult time. Our condolences to Evie and her family and we wish her luck.
