‘American Idol’s Ratings Continue To Sag
American Idol continues to slump after Monday night’s show. I was afraid of this. It was going up against The Voice on the night it began its live shows. This is the time in The Voice when people start to really tune in. At least it was up from Sunday night when Idol was clobbered by the Academy of Country Music Awards.
American Idol only got a 1.3 share, or about 6.9 million viewers. This was a little better than Sunday when it got a 1.2…but not great. By contrast, The Voice got a 1.8 share or 9.2 million viewers…that’s a lot. Again, I’m not surprised. The Voice lives are when things start to heat up and people just aren’t tuning into American Idol like ABC hoped. Yikes.
What does this mean for the show? I have a feeling they will get a second season. They’ve barely done well enough to merit that. But the question is will they bring back Katy Perry and her 25 million dollar price tag? They can get someone else for much, much cheaper.
