‘American Idol’ Winner Maddie Poppe Plans Different Style Than Her Single ‘Going Going Gone’
When Maddie Poppe won American Idol a few weeks ago she sang her single Going Going Gone, which did very well on the iTunes charts. It’s a pretty song and really showcases her voice. The one thing I thought when I first heard it was that it was a bit too pop for her. Apparently, Maddie agrees.
The song was written by Julia Michaels who is one of the hottest songwriters out there, (She also wrote The Voice‘s Brynn Cartelli’s original song Walk My Way). Maddie says she loves the song and is happy with the response,
“It’s pretty crazy. When people send me videos of them listening to it in their cars or I see celebrities tweeting about it, it’s pretty crazy to know that I’ve got a song out there that’s doing well. It was climbing the charts on iTunes…it’s all a dream come true and something you never think you’ll be able to see. I didn’t expect it to happen to me, so it’s pretty crazy that all these things that I’ve always thought about and dreamed that would happen are happening.”
But, on the other hand she doesn’t really feel that it shows off her style. She’s more of a 70’s singer/songwriter type. I always felt that and so does she. She said,
“I mean, I love the song, but it’s too pop for me personally. I love it, but I think that I want to write more singer/songwriter easy listening songs. I think it’s a great start and a gateway to a fan base, but that’s not the kind of music that I hope that I’m releasing in the future.”
I fully expect her to come out soon with some killer yacht rock. Something to go hiking and eat granola to.
