‘American Idol’ Stops Production Amid Coronavirus Chaos

It has been reported that American Idol has suspended production on this year’s season of the show. This comes after increasing fears over the spread of the Coronavirus. Idol isn’t the first to do this, with other major TV productions doing the same. Find out the latest on when Idol will continue to air on our screens & whether Britain’s Got Talent will do the same.
American Idol suspends TV production
It seems we may have to wait to see this year’s Idol contestants at the live shows. With many other major TV shows doing the same, Idol is just one of many following in their footsteps. Whilst viewers can still tune in for pre-recorded stages of Idol, we may have to wait until the end of the year to see the contestants sing in the live shows.

There is also a possibility that Idol will follow in the footsteps of AGT, however. America’s Got Talent, before halting production, decided to scrap its audience at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium during auditions. We find this hard to believe though, live shows without an audience are really no fun.
How will other TV Talent Shows be affected?
It’s hard to predict but what we can say is, no show will be actively using a studio or theatre audience until the government gives the all-clear. This will apply to any TV talent show filmed in the UK also.

With Britain’s Got Talent set to make a decision on how to go about planning the show’s schedule, we could see all of these shows pushed to Christmas time to continue airing.
Here’s what a source close to the show had to say about its programming this year:
“Audition shows are due to be broadcast in the next few weeks as planned. We are also working with our production colleagues to see how we can make the BGT live shows work in an ever changing situation and we will update on this in due course.”
