‘American Idol’ Runner-Up Arthur Gunn Releases New Nepali Song ‘Jalai Mai’
Instagram Nepali powerhouse Dibesh Pokharel, otherwise known by his stage name Arthur Gunn just released a new Nepali song called “Jalai Mai.” Arthur was the runner up on season 18 of American Idol. Immediately after appearing on the show he released a seven-song album called Self-Titled.
Arthur Gunn Releases New Nepali Single ‘Jalai Mai’
Arthur released the song “Jalai Mai” over on his YouTube channel which now has 359,000 subscribers. He wrote and composed the song himself and it was produced by Diwas Gurung. The crooner from Kathmandu, Nepal, moved to Witchita, Kansas six years ago. But he has stayed true to the roots with this soulful tune.
“The new song ‘Jalai Mai’ which I released it as the single is the song I wrote to express the empathy about the life in general” he told Talent Recap exclusively. “It speaks about how the time is passing, meanwhile the life is happening. It is about the characters who dwell in places and people and keep them as a part of life.”
“So, this song was written reminiscing about such experiences and memories as a gesture” he continued. “Along with that, life has been sweet and bitter lessons.”
Fans flooded the comments of the YouTube video with nothing but praise for the 23-year-old. “Arthur is so unpredictable, just like that puts a new song without saying anything, who knows what’s next? Arthur brings this Nepali music in English! Love your Grahan album wish it was an English version too” one comment said. His Grahan album was released before appearing on American Idol.
“Besides Dibesh, Diwas should get a shoutout too,” another person said in the comments. “The Sarangi tune provided a sense of cold flowing through the spine. Arthur Gunn, stay raw always my brother. Best wishes and this song is fire btw.”
“Arthur, please ignore anyone who tells you to sing in English” another fan encouraged. “Your Nepali songs are incredible! Your English songs are great too, but the Nepali is amazing to hear. Thank you for your music!”
Arthur Released An Album After Appearing On The Show
Arthur first released Self-Titled along with a disclaimer about his time on American Idol back in July. “For those of you who are wondering if I received a bunch of money and record deals out of holding this ‘runner up’ title, I haven’t, nothing at all,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have got tons of requests for live shows, collaboration, and all, it would take half of my career to be responding to that and going out there and to be playing shows for you all” he continued. The album was produced by Angelo Rodriguez and Arthur wrote and co-produced it.

Arthur also continues to post covers on his Instagram. Most recently he posted a video singing “You Can Discover” by John Martyn. The video now has over 63,000 views from his 297,000 instagram followers.

Though Arthur did not win American Idol, he has a pretty big global fanbase that proves you do not have to win the show in order to be successful in the music world.
