‘American Idol’ To Have Live Voting During The Show Next Week
At the end of last night’s episode of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest announced that the show was doing something it had never done before…in fact, no show has ever done before. During the broadcast next week, people can live vote for their favorite artists and the results will be announced at the end of the episode.
That’s right, instant karma is going to get them. So, as the contestants perform next week, anyone who downloads the American Idol app can vote them into the top 7. Then the announcement of who is cut is happening at the end of the show. Also, Idol will be broadcast at the same time, truly live, across the country. So, 5pm PST and 8pm EST, etc. This is going to be rough for the people on the West Coast who will be stuck in the horrific LA traffic at 5pm.
I can see why they are doing this and it has everything to do with the way Neilsen ratings are recorded. The ratings only monitor who is watching the show while it’s being broadcast. People watching it later on streaming, YouTube, and that have DVRed it don’t count. So, rather than let people have a leisurely 12 hours to vote, now you have to be watching live so you can vote live. Let’s see if it helps their ratings because Lord knows they need it.
