‘American Idol’ Is Calling This The Greatest Audition Ever — Is It?

American Idol audition Alejandro ArandaJill O'Rourke | Talent Recap

This sneak peek American Idol audition has us very interested in Wednesday’s new episode. The show’s YouTube account asked “Greatest American Idol Audition Ever?!” in the title. While the answer to that is subjective, you won’t be disappointed by Alejandro Aranda.

The 24-year-old dishwasher from Pomona, Calif., expertly strums his guitar while singing a mellow original song. All you have to do is look at the judges’ faces to see how impressed they are. Lionel Richie even appears to have tears in his eyes.

“I just feel like I’m in the presence of greatness,” Luke Bryan tells him. “I am so glad you are here. It was like watching my favorite movie that I did not want to end.”

“I think you’re really special,” Katy Perry adds. “I think you’re an absolute genius.”

Alejandro serves as a reminder that you don’t need an over-the-top personality or a window-shattering song choice to make an impact. All you need is honest talent and a clear passion for music.

The judges aren’t the only ones impressed. “I don’t think you realize how mad genius this guy is on that guitar,” one YouTube commenter wrote. Another stated, “Had to watch it again it was so good. I would buy the album now.”

If you want to hear more from Alejandro, you’re in luck. As another YouTube commenter pointed out, he has an Instagram account and YouTube channel where he posts videos of himself performing. (He’s also amazing on the piano.) You can even listen to his audition song, “Out Loud,” on Spotify.

You’ll also probably be shocked to find out that, according to his show bio, Alejandro has only been playing music for four years!

We’ll be tuning in to hear more of Alejandro’s story on Wednesday’s new episode of American Idol at 8/7c on ABC.
