‘American Idol’ Almost Ties ‘The Voice’ In The Ratings
American Idol has been the underdog in the ratings all season. It’s tough to come back from a two year hiatus and go against one of the most popular shows on TV: The Voice. Still, Idol has been more or less steady and has began to climb in the ratings. On Monday night they almost tied The Voice.
Monday American Idol got a 1.4 share or 7.6 million viewers while The Voice garnered a 1.5 or a little over 8 million viewers. That means that American Idol‘s reach increased and The Voice‘s ratings decreased. This is interesting and not all together surprising in the case of American Idol because the voting started this week and the shows are live which always boosts the ratings. The same is also true of The Voice but their ratings went down. Curious…
Either way this is good news for American Idol. They have to justify the redonkulous amount of money they are paying Katy Perry and Ryan Seacrest and they can’t do that if the ratings don’t match. Why would advertisers buy time on a show that isn’t competing well. Maybe their luck has changed?
