‘American Idol’ All Stars: Fans & Former Contestants React to the Idea

While we’re going to talk about American Idol All Stars here, we have to start by saying this is NOT actually happening. This discussion simply started when someone tweeted the suggestion! But we also wouldn’t hate it.
The possibility of an All Stars season of American Idol has always been a topic of conversation. Because the show has produced so many huge names in music and because other shows are doing the same (see America’s Got Talent: The Champions), now is the time for ABC to get in on it!
Here’s the tweet that started all the conversation. After that, we’ll go through who we’d love to see back on the Idol stage! And some past contestants even got in on it.
Who Fans Would Want on American Idol All Stars
Fans threw out a ton of names of past Idol contestants they’d like to see back in the competition. While many past winners were suggested as well, Phillip said he wants to stick to people who did not win. So here are some of the most popular contestants fans would want to see on American Idol All Stars.
- Tamyra Gray
- Adam Lambert
- Kellie Pickler
- Katharine McPhee
- David Archuleta
- Jason Castro
- Chris Daughtry
- Kimberley Locke
- Latoya London
- Vonzell Solomon
- Melinda Doolittle
- Clay Aiken
- Frenchie Davis
- Alison Iraheta
- Danny Noriega (AKA Adore Delano)
- Jessica Sanchez
- Paris Bennett
- Haley Reinhart
- Joshua Ledet
- Jacob Lusk
- Jennifer Hudson
- Sanjaya Malakar
Former Contestants Chime In
All the uproar on Twitter even reached some of the past Idol contestants! Katharine McPhee, who Phillip originally suggested in his tweet, poked fun at the idea. (But that being said, we would obviously expect William Hung to make an appearance on the All Stars season.)
Katharine has found massive success since her time on American Idol. Her self-titled debut album reached #2 on the charts. She had lead roles in the TV shows Smash and Scorpion. And in 2018, Katharine made her Broadway debut in Waitress. Another Idol alum who found success on Broadway recently was Syesha Mercado. The season seven 3rd place finalist made her debut in Book of Mormon in 2014. She also responded to someone suggesting she should join an All Stars season of American Idol.
One thing is for sure, if American Idol decides to do an All Stars season, we will be here for it! And from the sounds of it, we wouldn’t be the only ones. Your move, ABC!
