Ren Patrick starts a new journey on ‘Idol’ after suffering in an abusive relationship
Meet Ren Patrick. She recently left an abusive relationship after eight years and now she’s finally following her dream to be a singer. In an intro clip to her audition, Ren recalls her ex-boyfriend calling her ‘worthless’ and ‘garbage’. When Patrick opened up to her closest friends about the partner she’d been with since age 17, they advised her to cut ties. “I just packed up everything I could into my car and I left,” says Ren in her intro clip.
Patrick also mentions that she was forced into cutting ties with her mom and now regrets the eight years she lost with her family.

Katy Perry told Ren Patrick to ‘dump’ ex-boyfriend, 7 YEARS ago!
If it isn’t heartwarming enough that Ren is now able to live life on her terms, her inspiring story happens to involve Katy Perry. Many years back when Ren and her ex-boyfriend were at a Hollywood party, Katy had muttered to Ren, ‘Girl, dump him!”. Does it get any more iconic than that? Of course, Ren mentioned this at the room audition and thanked Perry.

Patrick went on to sing a beautiful rendition of ‘Dancing On My Own’ that had the judges speechless by the end. Once the episode that aired, all the judges including Katy spoke out about Ren’s ‘bravery’ online.
‘You are brave and your story will inspire so many others @RenPatrick. Can’t wait to see you continue this journey. And did you see that performance @robynkonichiwa? #AmericanIdol’, Katy Perry wrote in a tweet.
